About

Orchid Island Roofing

Built on Trust. Rooted in Care.

Your roof protects what matters most — your family, your memories, your home.

At Orchid Island Roofing, we believe that kind of protection starts with people you can trust. We listen. We communicate. We do what we say we’ll do.

Our Story

Orchid Island Roofing was founded in 2005, with Doug Leman working on the roof himself. As the business grew, he hired employees and expanded operations to a location on Old Dixie Highway. Continued growth led to a move to Commerce Avenue, where additional team members were added. Ongoing referral-driven success ultimately required another expansion to the company’s current, larger facility on U.S. 1—all while maintaining a steadfast commitment to 100% customer satisfaction. The current leadership team have all been promoted from within, sharing their experience with the newest team members.

Our Commitment

Whether you live beachside or inland in Vero Beach, your home deserves quality that lasts.

From new roofs and repairs to maintenance, we bring craftsmanship, honesty, and personal care to every project — no matter the size.

What Our Clients Say

At Orchid Island Roofing, customer satisfaction comes first—we’re dedicated to exceeding expectations on every roof we install or repair.

Doug Leman

Founder (Owner)

Doug began his career in the building trades in 1982 as a Union Carpenter, learning residential construction through a rigorous apprenticeship program and mentorship from experienced craftsmen. In 1986, he was honored as Illinois’ Apprentice of the Year.

In 1987, Doug launched his own general contracting business, eventually specializing in residential remodeling with an emphasis on seamless additions that matched the character of existing homes.

In 2005, after assisting friends in Vero Beach whose homes were damaged during the 2004 hurricanes, Doug decided to relocate permanently. He founded Orchid Island Construction, now operating as Orchid Island Roofing. Starting by doing the roofing work himself, he gradually expanded the company as demand grew.

With decades of hands-on experience across all facets of construction, Doug brings a deep and practical understanding of building science—expertise that directly benefits every roofing customer he serves. With the strong leadership team he has assembled, OIR is positioned to serve the community for many years to come.

Outside of work, Doug has enjoyed playing volleyball, has coached high school volleyball and now enjoys paddleboarding on the ocean.

Miguel Hernandez

President (Owner)

Miguel began his construction career in 1999 and joined Orchid Island Roofing in 2012. Starting as a helper on a repair crew, he steadily worked his way through every major aspect of roofing, gaining hands-on experience in repairs, re-roofs, specialty installs, and project coordination. This broad field experience gave him a deep understanding of both the technical and practical sides of the trade.

Miguel’s exceptional communication skills—particularly his ability to explain complex issues clearly and keep customers informed—quickly set him apart. Combined with his problem-solving abilities and broad construction knowledge, he naturally transitioned into leadership in 2017, where he excelled at guiding crews, managing projects, and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.

Today, Miguel serves as President and partial owner of Orchid Island Roofing. His blend of field expertise, operational leadership, and strong customer communication continues to drive the company forward and ensures every client receives both quality workmanship and an outstanding service experience.

Beyond the job, Miguel is an accomplished musician and frequently travels with his son’s highly regarded band.

Alfredo Mayorga

Vice President (Owner)

Alfredo joined Orchid Island Roofing in 2014 and quickly demonstrated a strong work ethic and natural talent for the trade. He began in the field, gaining experience in every facet of roofing before moving into leadership roles. Over the years, Alfredo advanced from foreman to superintendent, overseeing crews, coordinating projects, and ensuring that all work met the company’s high standards.

His excellent communication skills and ability to build trust with customers led him into a sales role, where he excels   as the company’s sales manager. Alfredo became known for his clear, straightforward explanations and his commitment to helping customers make informed decisions.

Building on his field expertise and customer-focused approach, Alfredo also oversees the repair division, ensuring that every repair—from routine fixes to complex diagnostics—is handled with accuracy and professionalism.

Today, as Vice President and partial owner, Alfredo plays a key role in guiding company operations and maintaining the quality, integrity, and service that define Orchid Island Roofing.
